In August 2009, the Swara
Sonora Trio spent 3 weeks traveling in Java and Bali, Indonesia.
The goal
of the
tour was to foster collaboration
and understanding between the United States and Indonesia, using
the powerful language of music as our common ground.
The trio
performed in 4 cities, bringing our commissioned work, Love
and Variations, to Indonesia, and also presenting modern
American works and standard repertoire from around the world.
In addition
to our concert performances, we worked with young musicians
in
master classes at local conservatories and met with the press and
community leaders.
The
tour was also a fundraiser, as perfomance proceeds were donated
to support the Children of Indonesia’s rights advocacy
through the programs implemented there. The tour raised over
$3,000 that went directly to UNICEF's Indonesia Country Office.
